1971年列侬和妻子大野洋子（Yoko Ono）住在英国乡下一幢豪华的别墅里。年初的某一天的早晨，列侬起床后在洋子的陪伴下，写下了《想像》的歌词。其音乐部分则是在他家那架着名的白色钢琴上写成的。
